JOHN LENNON:

John Lennon's complete solo catalog will become available in digital format for the first time ever on December 6th -- two days before the twenty-fifth anniversary of his death -- through various digital sites.

Until then, the former Beatle's new greatest hits album, Working Class Hero, is the first selection of his music to go digital -- this week -- with some tracks to be made available as cell-phone downloads in coming weeks.

While there has long been talk of putting the Beatles online, Lennon's music is among the first of Beatles-affiliated material to go digital: While Paul McCartney and George Harrison's solo recordings are not online, Ringo Starr's solo albums are currently available through the iTunes music store.

"I am very happy that John's music is now available to a new generation of music fans," said Lennon's widow Yoko Ono. "New technology is something he always embraced, and this is something he would have loved."

Cyndi Lauper :

Cyndi Lauper was one of the biggest stars of the early MTV era, selling five million copies of her debut album, She's So Unusual, as well as scoring a string of four Top Ten
hits from the record, including the major hits "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "Time After Time." Lauper's thin, girlish voice and gleefully ragtag appearance became one of the most distinctive images of the early '80s, which helped lead her not only to the top of the charts, but also to stardom. Throughout America, there were numbers of teenage girls dressing like Lauper and using "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" as an anthem, a call to arms for self-expression. At first, her music was a bright, colorful new wave fusion of a number of styles, including new wave, post-punk, reggae, pop, and funk. Both her music and her appearance helped popularize -- and just as importantly, sanitize --- the image of punk and new wave for America, making it an acceptable part of the pop landscape. Lauper didn't follow through on the success of She's So Unusual, choosing to turn toward middle-of-the-road balladry and mainstream pop, but her first album remains a benchmark of the early '80s.

After a long hiatus, Lauper returned to the studio in 2003 for At Last, a collection of pop standards that garnered favorable reviews and spawned a live DVD, Live...At Last. Ambient Music:

Robert Scott Thompson "At The Still Point Of The Turning World"

Many listeners have been eagerly looking forward to Robert Scott Thompson's new album on the Hypnos label and it certainly fulfills those high expectations. Thompson is a music professor with an extensive background in computer and electronic music, and has an extensive back catalog of high quality releases. This work is made up of twelve tracks, varying in length from just under two minutes to nearly eleven minutes, with most in the three to seven minute range.

There are no beats here, just shifting sculptures of evocative atmospheric beauty. Each piece is an exquisitely crafted miniature world of it's own that blends with the greater whole. There are many outstanding moments in this creation, and each track has it's highlights. Here are some high points: The suspenseful orchestral swells in "Of Mirrored Air" begin the disc. Discordant background melodies swirl behind melancholy piano and string sounds in "Airports For Shadow And Dust". The subtle menacing layers of "A Theory Of Place " give way to the wordless vocal spirit world of "Presences". Crackling, thawing sounds fuse with long drones and chimes in "Water Out Of Sunlight". Flute-like melodies and drones ebb and flow with a distant choir in "When Dreams Collide". A lonely piano recalls the past through revolving electronic mists in "Tinted In Temporal Hue". "Melting Through Inches Of Mercury" has piano melody wrapped in synth layers melting into the serene conclusion of "Figured In The Drift Of Stars".

This is a moving work crafted with the skill of a veteran artist. Listening at different volume levels reveals new textures and signatures within the excellent production. Thompson has created a work that effortlessly blends classical and modern influences into something that is uniquely his own. Highly recommended, this deserves a large and appreciative audience. NEW EXCITING ARTIST:

Over the Last two weeks I have come across 3 CD's by a Music artist with an extraordinary ear for production and composition. His name is Jack Urban. As it turns out Jack is not only a fine producer and composer but just happens to be a guy I went to school with in the early seventies. I have not had contact with Jack since 1973, and to come across him and his works 30 some years later is wonderful. My following review is not in anyway Biased by our former relation which actually included several years in a Rock band called "Summit" around the Chicago Area. Jack as of this writing has 3 CD's: 1-"Wellsprings", a collaboration of Jack Urban on Piano and Glauber Ribeiro playing Flute. This first CD is a live, easy instrumentation done without artificial effects. "Wellsprings" is a Raw inspirational driven CD that highlights both the talent of each instrument and the composition.

"Manna" Jack Urbans first solo release, is a solid winner. "Manna" is a blend of
Strings, Harps, and melodic reeds embroidered into a backdrop of ambient beauty. Eight tracks of wonderful music including, "Count the Stars" and "Living Water" form to make a inspirational journey through the deeps of your faith and mind.

As Jack himself states, "
The music of Manna endeavors to be the kind of music that resonates in an intimate heart. It is music that feeds the soul and lifts the body beyond our everyday self."
"Butterflies In Snow", My personal favorite. Is Jack Urbans latest CD. It begins with a lively cut "Coconuts" and finishes with the Title track. This CD is a wonderful journey that takes you from images of snow white sand and turquoise waters of Malaysia, to Paradoxial Beauty and the wondrous circle of the created creator.

All of these CD's along with sound clips, contact info, and ordering for reasonable prices can be had at www.cdbaby.com: "just enter "jack urban" in the search box"

If easy listening Instrumental music, done with a contemporary flare is for you. I promise you will not be disappointed.
